"Should I dress in white and search the sea
As I always wish to be
One with the waves
Ocean Soul."
- 'Ocean Soul' by Nightwish
Finally, some inspiration! This is my interpretation of the aforementioned Nightwish song as this is the kind of imagery I get in my head when I hear it, and it's in the purply blue theme of the Century Child album artwork. The woman isn't meant to be anyone in particular, just a generic Gothic Princess-type, and she's looking lonely and staring out into the vast expanse of water longingly. To me, an Ocean Soul is someone who's misunderstood and sometimes wishes they could run away from every day life to something more mysterious and beautiful. This is my personal interpretation anyway.
I'm really chuffed with how this came out, although the sky didn't go quite to plan; I wanted it to be a more navy colour. The photo is TERRIBLE as it sucks all the depth and richness out of it...will probably upload a better one soon.
Executed in mainly watercolour pencils, plus ordinary colouring pencils for her face, and a bit of white chalk for highlights. I used the Century Child, Oceanborn and Wishmaster album artwork and a Nightwish wallpaper I found online as inspiration but otherwise it's all from my imagination.
Now it's time for August 2008 Visual Art Features, many new art to discover!
Don't forget that many artists need to be viewed, they deserve it! Fave Fave Fave! My main purpose in doing a monthly feature about (to my point of view) 'the best visual art' is to put in the same level as well wellknown artists and popular creations as unknown artists and under-exposed creations. Artists need to be supported. So don't be shy!
